V Rod 2020 Hwy ride in Oregon! Is a Night Rod more fun to ride than my GSXR 1000?

I had a liter bike and loved the power but just couldn't take it on even a short 1 hr trip without getting sore legs and low back. After my last 300 mile trip to central Oregon and having my legs and back ache after just the first 75 miles of twisty mountain roads I decided to look around for something fun and powerful but more comfortable to ride.

I owned a 1200 Katana and then a 1200 Bandit before the liter bike and so thought a naked bike or possibly a muscle cruiser would be better for trips to the lake, beach and mountains if I could find a powerful enough one. I was spoiled with the Liter Bike... it could go 0-60 in 2.6 seconds, pull the frt wheel off the ground at any speed up to 110mph with top speed 180 ish plus it cornered and braked excellent.

Coming off Liter Bikes I had always thought the Harley's were heavy, gutless, hard to steer, bad braking bikes. Then while looking for naked bikes and cruisers I found a few V-Rods on Craigslist and started researching them...

I found that the 2008-2017 HD Vrod had much better looks and more power than the previous 2001-2007 model. plus 0-60 in 3.4 seconds. V-Rod Night Rod had a much wider rear tire and came blacked out in the upgraded Night Rod configuration which really looked good to me. So I went to a dealer and rode one...

It rode and handled great and was faster than most 750cc sport bikes. I have owned several Honda, Yamaha and Suzuki bikes and this bikes low stance not only looks good but helps the Night Rod corner and maneuver well, the extra weight really improves ride & smooths out all bumps, ABS brakes give great braking and forward foot placement helps leg comfort so all of these together make for a excellent ride on any type of ride. I bought it after giving it an 20 point inspection and a hour ride on it on back roads and the hwy thinking if I don't like it over the next month or two I would sell it and keep the liter bike. Unlike my liter bike I could sell it for a profit due to getting a good deal on it and they hold their resale much better than any used Asian or Euro bikes.

My low mile 2008 V-Rod Night Rod has Factory...
1250cc Harley/ Porsche Designed Blacked Out engine and frame
Abs Brembo brakes with dual frt disk 4 piston calipers and single disk rear 4 piston caliper
HD Wireless remote key and security system
HD Cruise control adj knob on throttle
Belt drive lasts 25000 to 100,000 between belts with no adjustment
CFR Race Pipe and Fueler

I installed a couple hundred dollars of options including...
Progressive springs up front which 100% stopped it's 5" dive on heavy braking
Ultra bright Headlight
Tail light with integrated turn signals and removed old HD tail light assembly
Radar detector
Better foot-pegs
Rubber cushion hand grips
Exhaust Baffle to lower dbs to 91 from over 100, for Oregon DB Laws
USB charger and Cell phone handle bar mount

Harley calls the V-Rod a roadster due to the lack of bulk, windshield and fairings and it is the fastest best handling Harley bike that I have ridden to date. I like owning an American motorcycle built in Kansas City USA and was tired of people calling my liter bike a rice rocket or crotch rocket (it was a rocket but most were just jealous or hate bikes period). Now I get smiles, thumbs up and a lot of other good input from people instead.

A lot of my Sport bike friends are very curious and always like to look it over when they see it and always ask to ride it. Most of the other Harley owners I see just ignore me but a few come over and ask about the bike while I am at parks or restaurants. I am mainly a lone wolf rider and ride mostly longer trips alone due to riding to our Spring, Summer and Fall camping trips to the Mountains, High Desert or Beach to train our Endurance Horse for races... and hunt ;)

Final thoughts:
If your on the fence on whether it will be fast and fun...ride one!
You will want to own one the first time you ride it!

Its been 3 years and the more I ride the Night Rod the more I enjoy it, it's fast, it's fun and much more comfortable to ride to a lot more places than the liter bike . 50-500 mile trips down the beach or in the mountains even in traffic no longer discourage me. Like with my liter bike my favorite rides are in the mountains on highways and back roads at high speed winding through corners and railing down straightaways.

The Night Rod is a Porsche/Harley designed performance cruiser built in America for people who want power, handling and the looks of a Muscle Cruiser.

FYI: This is my new Action Cameras 1st test ride... I just bought this GoPro Hero 8 to film the V-Rod and our Horse and Mtn Bike trail rides in Oregon and Washington's Forests and Mountains... more ride videos to follow soon...
