SpaceX is about to drop Starship 24 into the sea…
Unbelievably, only a few days left, the first test launch will be carried out and then all the world's attention will be on the ocean. Why the ocean? That's because SpaceX and Elon Musk decided that Starship 24 would land in the sea when it had flown almost one orbit.
What makes them do so? Let's go find out the Starship's plan to land on the sea.
For the upcoming first test orbital flight, Starship 24 will launch from Starbase, at Boca Chica, Texas, on the US Gulf Coast. It will fly slightly south of the east, just over the northern tip of Cuba. Starship will then travel across the southern Atlantic Ocean and pass over Namibia before traveling over the Indian Ocean. The final piece of land Starship is expected to pass over is Indonesia before heading out over the Pacific Ocean, and reentering near Hawaii. The booster and spacecraft will separate about 170 seconds into the flight.
When launching Starship, all 33 of the Raptor's engines were operating at full capacity. Initially, the Starship ascends vertically, then begins to tilt horizontally in the direction of its desired orbit. After providing the Starship with the greatest possible horizontal velocity, Booster detached, and began to land back on Earth. Booster performs "reverse combustion" by igniting some of its center engines, suppressing lateral velocities, and changing its ballistics trajectory back to the landing site. The Booster, made entirely of stainless steel, withstands the scorching hot blast of compressed air as the booster re-enters Earth's atmosphere. The turbocharger was led to the landing area by deployed net fins. According to the latest information we have updated, Booster will return and fall straight into the sea about 32km from the coast in the Gulf of Mexico.
