Is This The BEST Mac Thunderbolt 5 SSD Enclosure? Acasis TB504 Review & Speed Tests With MacBook Pro

The Acasis TB504 is a Thunderbolt 5 80Gbps NVMe enclosure that will accept up to 4 NVMe SSDs and will also accept PCIe Gen 5 NVMe SSDs.

The TB504 can be configured in many ways to either work with single SSD configurations or RAID configurations. You can even mix single SSDs with a RAID set. For instance, you could have two SSDs in a RAID 1 mirrored setup, or even a RAID 0 configuration, and have two SSDs configured as two separate SSDs. It is very flexible.

While it only connects to the host computer, in my example an Apple Silicon M4 Max MacBook Pro, using one Thunderbolt 5 cable, and therefore only using one Thunderbolt 5 bus. Which means a maximum of 80Gbps bandwidth/speed between all the SSDs inside of the TB504 and the host computer. The TB504 uses "Dynamic Bandwidth Allocation", which means that it allocates all of the available PCIe lanes and bandwidth in such a way that it is using the full bandwidth regardless of the SSD configurations.

ACASIS thermal test results for the TB504 under sustained load (ambient ~24.7°C):
~40.7°C after 30 minutes
~54.5°C after 60 minutes
~62.9°C after 120 minutes
~61.7°C after 180 minutes
