Mini Spot Welder Bk11-1k BL18-2K CA04 Capacitor charge Inrush current resistor limiter mod
This mod adds a resistor *in series* with the reverse Cap discharge protection diode. The resistor can be any value above 10 Ohms up to 50 (or even 100 though the cap charge time will be substantially longer and between fast welds this could be a problem).
To give you an idea of the charge time and current considering a 12V source, a 10 Ohms resistor will charge the 10000uf cap in about 350ms (pretty fast) while with a 20Ohms it will take double that (still under 1 second). To stay on the safe side and protect your diode you can use a 20 Ohms one expecially if you have to swap your shorted diode out for another which has less peak current limit (the original one handles 30Amps for about 9ms and with a 10Ohm resistor you would have 1.2Amps max for less than 1ms dropping to half that in 50ms).
