accepted parsons portfolio (pratt, saic, rit, risd, cooper union) + tips for merit scholarships💥
✨open for a plethora of information!✨
hey everyone!
it helps to go to national portfolio day in a nearby city but i was told the same thing I've learned from other portfolio videos on yt; going or not doesn't make or break your portfolio
i also went to an art studio to make my portfolio; i don't think i would've made as much work as i did without it but that's just me personally. it really helped me become self-motivated and build momentum.
art schools look for creative potential like concepts and ideas rather than skill (you can always develop drawing skills during schooling)
i forgot to mention one piece bc i sent it to cooper union in my home test box but here's a link to view. it is my most successful piece in terms of mood and texture. check it out :)

individual tips for some of the schools i applied:
PRATT: has their own essay, i recycled my common app essay
PARSONS: common app essay + parsons challenge + why do you want to attend parsons plus what would you contribute to the school (i told them about my interest in their integrated design and product design programs, wanting to learn about ergonomics and my commitment to art throughout hs) they love different perspectives so definitely talk about how your background contributes to a more diverse community
SAIC: artist statement + common app essay (i applied early action for extra money but this was my least developed portfolio so i ultimately got less money from any other school. if your portfolio isn't ready it's not worth applying early) a professor i met at national portfolio talked to me about iteration; basically building upon a concept in multiple perspectives and media and that's what i did for my later applications
RISD: risd challenge changes every year now, i was told not to worry too much about it by an admission counselor and ended up leaving it til way too last minute, risd likes big and detailed work bc they have the most intensive art program
COOPER UNION (school of art): home test consists of 6 prompts, a few supplemental questions, you may include a flash drive with your work as well as a few physical pieces as long as it fits in the specified sized box, they are very particular about instructions!
RIT: portfolio and SAT, not extremely competitive in their art programs. they are extremely generous with scholarships.
thank you for watching! 💙 hope you found this video helpful and enjoyed the lil animation i did at 13:45
