This Guy Stole $120M From Google & Meta (& Nearly Got Away)

We usually think of companies like Google and Meta as some of the most secure and advanced platforms on the market. They hire the absolute best talent on the market and pay exorbitant salaries, so this is not surprising. What may be surprising is that a random guy from Lithuania was able to pull a quick one on Google and Meta. And this wasn’t for some small amount like $50k or $100k. Evaldas Rimasauskas was able to steal $23 million from Google and a whopping $98 million from Meta. Also, this wasn’t a one-time thing either. Evaldas was able to outsmart these tech giants for years, and if he didn’t push his luck he very well may have gotten away with it as well. But, eventually, these companies did catch on and they reported the theft to the FBI who were able to track Evaldas down to Lithuania in no time. Evaldas would end up pleading guilty and be sentenced to 5 years of jail and significant amounts of restitution.
