Cullinan family in Gauteng struggles over daughter's murder allegedly by her cousin

The family of a 17-year-old grade 11 learner from Refilwe township in Cullinan near Bronkhorstspruit says they're struggling to understand how someone close to them could kill their daughter.

Owami Visagie was raped and murdered, allegedly by her cousin, Chris Mthethwa a week ago.

Mthethwa subsequently handed himself over to the police.

The 30-year-old suspect appeared briefly in the Cullinan magistrates court amid a protest by community members.
