Councils have found a ‘new reason’ to cancel Australia Day
The Hills Shire Council has found a “new reason” to cancel Australia Day, scaling back their annual Australia Day festival due to COVID-19, according to Sky News host Paul Murray.
The council area has over 95 per cent of their population fully vaccinated against coronavirus, however the council voted against bringing back a large event on the 26th of January.
“Yet it’s not enough to convince them to carry on as normal,” Mr Murray said.
“It’s not enough for them to suggest that Australia Day should be in full bloom after being cancelled due to Covid the previous year in their shire.
“But they’re not the only ones,” Mr Murray added.
