People aren’t having an ‘honest debate’ about consequences of net zero by 2050

British trade unionist and writer Paul Embery says he doesn't believe there has been an “honest debate” about the consequences of a net zero emissions by 2050 target.

“If we do transition to a green economy, what is that going to mean, in my country for example, for hundreds of thousands of workers in the energy industry, for entire industries potentially going to the wall?” he told Sky News Australia.

“And if that is necessary then we need a plan to stop those families and to stop those communities from being decimated.

“It’s all very well the elites discussing these targets, but my concern is that the people they're really going to impact on are not being looked after and not being thought about.”
