How to connect a home phone to a Linksys modem?

To connect a home phone to a Linksys device, it primarily depends on whether your "Linksys modem" is actually a modem/router combo unit with built-in Voice over IP (VoIP) capabilities provided by your internet service provider (ISP). If it is, look for RJ-11 phone jacks (smaller than Ethernet ports, often labeled 'Phone 1' or 'Line 1') on the back of the Linksys unit. Simply plug your standard home phone directly into one of these ports using a phone cord. The Linksys device then converts your phone calls into digital data and sends them over your internet connection. If your Linksys device is just a modem or a router without dedicated phone ports, you cannot directly connect a phone. Instead, you would need an Analog Telephone Adapter (ATA), a separate device used by VoIP services like Ooma or Vonage. Your home phone plugs into the ATA, and the ATA then connects to a LAN port on your Linksys router, which uses your internet connection for calls.
