Sudan’s al-Burhan says army dissolved gov't to avoid civil war

Sudan's military chief says the armed forces tried their best to work with the civilian leadership, but they reached a deadlock that could not be overcome.
General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan was speaking publicly for the second time since seizing power in a coup on Monday.
He said distrust between coalition partners had been growing for months.
Al-Burhan said the military was forced to act because tensions had become dangerous, and the country was at risk of civil war.
He also said that Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok was “at my residence for his protection” a day after his reported detention by soldiers during a widely condemned military coup, adding that Hamdok was “in good health” and would “return home when the crisis is over”.
“Yes, we arrested ministers and politicians, but not all of them” al-Burhan added on Tuesday in a news conference in Khartoum.
