Lakhta Center. Zero cycle. Foundation Lower Slab
The pouring of the bottom slab of the box shaped foundation of Lakhta Center in Saint-Petersburg high-rise building, which began on February 27, 2015 at 20.00, was successfully completed on March 1, 2015 at 21.20. During more than 49 hours of continuous concrete pouring, 19,624 cubic meters of concrete were cast in the foundation, which is three thousand cubic meters more than the Guinness record. An important construction stage of the complex has been completed.
The height of 462 meters and weight of 670,000 tons dictate specific requirements for the foundation of the high-rise building. The box shaped foundation rests on 264 piles with a diameter of 2 m and a length of 65 m, buried 85 meters deep in the ground. It consists of two heavy structures: the top slab with a height of 2 m, and 3.6m bottom slab, exceeding standard floor height. Structure rigidity is ensured by a central core, additional overlapping slab and traverses (stiffening diaphragms).
The most robust structure of a high-rise building foundation, and the one most difficult to manufacture is the bottom slab. It has the shape of an equilateral pentagon with area of 5,670 square meters.
The concrete was delivered by 13 concrete plants in St. Petersburg. On average, truck mixer was entering the construction site every minute.
Unparalleled strength of the plate is ensured by 15 levels of reinforcement grids made of 32 mm steel reinforcing bars. It took 9.6 thousand tons of metal, supplied from rolling mills all over Russia, just to reinforce the bottom slab foundation of the Lakhta Center tower. For comparison, roughly the same amount was used for the construction of the Eiffel Tower.
This film tells in detail about this stage of building "Lakhta Center".
