How to set up the Bush-Whacker MD180 flex-wing brush cutter

Script: Hi, my name is Thomas and today we are going to set up a MD180. So, the first thing you want to do is these level rods here with the turnbuckles. They run all the way to the front of the machine and control the height and the timing. And what it does is it levels front to back. So the first thing you're going to want to do is you’re going to want to turn these turnbuckles. Now when there is tension on it on one side you’re going to have to move to the other side because it's trying to lower it kinda like that. To lower the tongue you go clockwise on your rotation and to make it go higher you turn counterclockwise. Then after you get your level rods adjusted you want to tighten this jam nut up so it can’t ever back off.

Once you tighten up your jam nuts you're ready to back into the clevis with your tractor. Once you drop your pin in your clevis to hook us to your draw bar you’re ready to hook up your hoses. You’ll need to port on your tractor one of these hoses controls the center cylinder for the height and the other controls the function of the wings. Once those are connected come back here and move your wrench and you’re ready to fire up the tractor and lift the center deck.

The next thing you want to do back here at the back of the mower you have these two travel locks. All they are is a three quarter bolt with a nile lock nut on the back. What you need to do is take this bolt and nut off like I said with a three quarter. And anytime you’re transporting a mower you definitely wanna have these in case if the cylinders aren’t under hydraulic pressure you’re going to have a wing fall down and that is never good. So we’ll remove these. And you can just save the bolt and put it back in there for later. And after removing your travel locks you’re ready to let the wings down.

Once your wings are down you have these ragged jacks on the wing. So what you want to do is by moving these you see how the tire can move in or out. You need to flip it cause you need to level your wings with your center deck. Do the same thing to the other side.

Now the nose of the cutter needs to be pointed down just a bit. The way to measure that is it needs to be about a half an inch lower than the back. Reason for that being is when it’s lower in the front it can discharge all your grass or debris. It's just easier for it to discharge. So the way to check that is to take the measurement from the bottom of the chain to the ground and it should be half an inch lower in the front. Same thing with level side to side. Best measurement to take is from your skid shoe to the bottom. It should match the skid shoe on the bottom on that side.

Now hooking up your PTO drive shaft. This is a category 6 CB driveline. It has a ball caller kit so when you pull this spring back it exposes these balls right here and when you do that you line up those lines come to your PTO there is a groove right here. They need to sit in that groove. If you push it too far you can just pull it back here it will click into place. Same thing on your diverter. You’ve got a tapered pin. Again line up those lines. I’ll show you this pin. Has a washer on the nut side. It’s got a tapered pin. There is only one way this will go in. And again the input shaft on the divider gearbox has grooves in it as well. This tapered part needs to sit in those grooves. Some people try to force it in it should not be force. You see if it’s wrong it will not go. You have to get it just right for it to sit in those grooves. Put your washer and your nut back on it. Cut your PTO on.
