360º Guanajuato City, Mexico ⎸ 360 Honeymoon

If Disney made up the quaintest of Colonial Mexican towns and plonked it in one of their theme parks, Guanajuato is exactly what it would look like. It's so quaint, this model-village oasis in Central Mexico, that you just want to squeeze its little cheeks. No surprise that this former silver mining town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, because when you get here and wander around its impractical streets and slithery alleys, you want to wrap it up in cotton wool and definitely prevent Starbucks from breeding any more branches. From the ridiculous array of colours on the painted houses to the quirks of its funicular train up to Pipila Statue overlooking the whole shebang from high, to it's absurd Museo del las Momia (mummies; lots of dead people in cases with horrific looks on their faces), there's plenty to do here to keep you going for a few days. You can visit the childhood home of muralist and husband of Frida Kahlo, big fat froggy-faced Deigo Rivera. You can stay a while and get some great deals on intensive Spanish language lessons. You can join a night walking tour with the callejoneada - robed men who serenade you with folk songs while topping up your drinking vessel with wine. You can visit Callejon Del Beso (alley of the kiss), the scene of Mexico's version of Romeo and Juliet. Our favourite thing was just wandering around the ornate plazas and alleys dotted with obsessively sculpted trees, getting lost and soaking up the atmosphere. Warning...it can get very cold at night!
