Softness training for a horse with a hard mouth
In this video I show you how I start the process of creating softness in a horse who has a hard and unresponsive mouth. I start by asking for softness at a halt through longitudinal flexion from the lightest touch possible. During this process it is important to maintain straightness through the neck by keeping the hands low and wide, providing a larger base of support to counter any attempts to evade sideways.
Next, we move onto seeking that same softness throughout the rein back using the same principles. Timing and feel are crucial throughout this whole process.
