The Vadodara Municipal Corporation has started using its citywide CCTV camera network more actively to catch people who violate civic rules, especially those who dump garbage or litter in public places. Instead of just waiting for complaints or manual inspections, the VMC identifies offenders on camera and then takes action.

Once someone is caught on CCTV throwing trash, spitting, or doing similar prohibited acts, the corporation issues fines to the individuals responsible. In the past month alone, around 200 people were spotted on cameras and fined for these offences. The goal behind this step is to improve cleanliness and discourage people from littering.

In addition to fines, the local civic body has taken the extra step of displaying photos of offenders on large LED screens installed at busy locations across the city. This public display is meant to increase civic awareness and act as a deterrent so that people think twice before littering.

These moves reflect the corporation’s push to use technology and surveillance not just for monitoring traffic or security, but to enforce public behaviour standards and keep the city cleaner and more orderly.
