Today is the epitome of the BEST and WORST of PANDEMIC TRAVEL.
We are in Gaziantep, the food capital of Turkey and all the restaurants are closed! Seriously. Take out only. It is rainy and cold and we can’t even go into a coffee shop for Turkish coffee… definitely the worst thing about pandemic travel- the ever changing rules and restrictions.
But…..
Gaziantep is not just home to the best food in Turkey. Here we keep meeting the nicest and most hospitable locals we have ever met in all our travels! This is the best part of pandemic travel, no other tourists, all the cool places to yourself, and genuine amazing experiences and interactions with locals. Spoiler alert 📣 the barber invites us in for coffee and brings it from the closed coffee shop, the coppersmith invites us to be his guest since the restaurants are closed, and the olive vendors and baklava seller take welcoming to the next level. Gaziantep is a cant miss place! Yes, for the food, yes for the beautiful handmade artisan goods, but most of all for the people!
