US and UK pound Yemeni Houthis with missiles in retaliation for strikes on Red Sea shipping

The US, UK and other allies bombed Iran-backed Houthis in Yemen overnight, threatening to escalate the war in the Middle East. America fired Tomahawk cruise missiles from at least one submarine and one destroyer during the blitz. Super Hornet jets were also deployed from the Dwight D Eisenhower aircraft carrier. Meanwhile British Typhoon fighters flew from Cyprus to Yemen before dropping Paveway Bombs. Australia, Bahrain, Canada and the Netherlands also assisted with intelligence and logistics. The Yemeni capital of Sanaa was hit, along with the cities of Saada, and Dhamar.
The strikes came after more than two dozen strikes by the Houthis against ships in the Red Sea that had disrupted international shipping lanes. Targets included missile launch sites, ammo dumps, production facilities, command and control centres and anti-air defences. Houthi leaders began targeting ships over the war currently raging between Israel and Hamas - another Iranian ally- in Gaza. The Houthis vowed Britain and America would ‘pay a heavy price’ for the strikes.
