Meet the Toki by Kurono Tokyo, Hajime Asaoka's more affordable brand #MicroBrandMonday #watch

This #Microbrand Monday I’d like to introduce to you a special piece straight from Japan. Made by the master watchmaker Hajime Asaoka, the Kurono Tokyo Toki excels in its execution of simplicity. Hajime is known for his exclusive handmade watches that are extremely limited and well-regarded in high horology, but luckily for us mortals he doesn’t just make six-figure masterpieces.

This watch was originally available for around $1,700 for the second anniversary of Kurono’s opening – a brand made for enthusiasts to access Asaoka’s talents at a lower price point. The watch is just 37mm wide and 11mm tall and powered by a Miyota 90S5 movement – it is the smallest watch in my collection but the proportions feel “right” for the aesthetic.

The dial is not just a bland salmon dial – the sunburst design radiates from metallic coral to vermillion red. Decorating the face are highly polished concentric rings and indices which bring a classic art deco touch that is a signature of Asaoka. There are no numerals, date window, sub-dials or other distractions that disturb the clean aesthetic.

Be sure to check out my Instagram, Watches Rated, for more watch reviews, content and more!
