Reducing Inequalities in Development Policy and Practice

This event highlights key approaches to reducing inequality through inclusive and sustainable economic development, social protection, and climate change and just transition. Developed in collaboration with GIZ, these sectoral guidance notes offer actionable insights and policy recommendations to foster more inclusive and equitable development outcomes.

—Inclusive and Sustainable Economic Development
Emphasizes redistributive policies such as taxation, public spending and labour market policies, in particular support for informal workers, and the promotion of inclusive and green industrial and agricultural policies to reduce inequality and foster sustainable development.

—Social Protection
Focuses on the role of social insurance, assistance, and labour market policies in reducing poverty, vulnerability, and inequality. Social protection is a cornerstone of inclusive development, supporting economic stability, productivity, and fair resource distribution.

—Climate Change and Just Transition
Examines how climate change exacerbates inequalities and how adaptation and mitigation strategies, especially those rooted in the concept of just transition, can address both environmental and socio-economic disparities.
