Many teachers use YouTube but are not aware of the range of different settings and tricks that we can use to really make use of our YouTube videos. in this video I'm going to take you through a range of different tips and ideas that will really help you to get full value out of YouTube. For example there are a number of really powerful ways to control our video plaver. So you can control your video from your keyboard, therefore you do not need to use your mouse and you do not need to keep clicking on the screen to play videos, stop videos, rewind videos etc.

Did you realise for example that you can use the spacebar on your keyboard to stop a video and to start a video? Did you realise for example that if you press the number 0, your video will resume back to the start. When I observe teachers in the classroom I often see them jumping over to their computers to stop a video, rewind it to the beginning or start playing it when it would be much easier to simply use their keyboard controls.

Not only are there really effective ways of moving around and playing videos but there's some great settings we can use when we want to access some of the additional features in YouTube. For example we can view the transcripts of videos. so it is possible to watch a video and also to look at the transcript at the same time. In fact you can even use the transcript to control where you move in the video and you can click on the transcripts and the video will move to that specific part of the video. This only works with videos that have transcripts but it's a really useful technique that we can use when working with students in the classroom, particularly in things like language teaching where we need to focus on the transcript and look at the vocabulary and the grammar.

Another great teacher feature when working with YouTube videos is the fact that you can slow down the speed of delivery of a YouTube channel. Again this can be particularly interesting if you're working in language teaching and would like to work with native material but perhaps you want to slow down the video so that the non-native students can understand it. This is a feature that I like to use a lot when I'm studying languages. At the moment I study Polish and I use this feature a lot when I work with native content but want to slow it down so that I can understand it better.

All of these tips and tricks will really help you to get the maximum out of YouTube and be more effective in the way you use YouTube when you are working with your students. I show you how to loop a video. I show you how to jump to a specific part of the video. I show you how to quickly change from different views of the video for example you might want to watch the video in full screen or theatre view.

This video is packed with ideas of how to use YouTube in a more effective way. It will save you time and make it easier when working with YouTube and you might learn a few really interesting settings that can help both you and your students. This is a video that I would recommend to both 2 teachers and 2 students.
