Over centuries, the Han River has shaped a linear park along Seoul’s urban landscape through sedimentation and erosion. Our project aims to mend this disrupted natural artery, drawing inspiration from the river’s resilience. Our design merges urban and cultural elements, blending nature with urbanity.

Instead of merely extending the city to the river, we propose a continuous surface rising from river to city level, prioritizing connection and flow. This park serves as a transitional space, fostering interaction between the river and the city, encouraging harmony and unity.

With the river flowing perpendicular to the city, we envision an infrastructure that harmonizes with both the natural and urban flows. The park is conceptualized as a dynamic confluence, not just an inanimate object.

The accessible slope connecting the city to the river requires a minimum length of 415m to achieve 6m clearance above Olympic-Daero, extending into the riverfront. By curving the edges of this triangle, we achieve the necessary length and reduce the building footprint to under 10,000 sqm, enhancing constructability and reducing costs. The gentle curvature offers panoramic river views.
The elevated terrain ensures adequate soil depth for various plant species, with additional mounds for taller vegetation. This multi-layered approach meets horticultural needs and enhances visual appeal and ecological diversity.

River streams through the bridge guide visitors from Sinbanpo-ro to the Han River, creating a seamless connection between urban and natural landscapes. Hydrologic devices along the route mimic natural water flows, enhancing the park’s aesthetic appeal.

Seasonal changes in trees, shrubs, and flowers transform the park, offering diverse environmental experiences. Spring blossoms, summer greenery, autumn foliage, and winter serenity create dynamic scenery that deepens visitors' connection to nature.

Diverse pavement typologies throughout the park enrich sensory experiences, with unique textures and appearances engaging sight and touch. The proportion of grass and pavement varies, blurring the boundary between path and garden, encouraging exploration and interaction.

The park’s greenery provides privacy for surrounding apartments while shielding visitors from expressway noise and pollution. The extended natural landscape forms an ecological corridor supporting local biodiversity and integrating nature into the urban fabric.

Natural processes like evaporation, humidification, and air purification create a sustainable environment. Multiple simulations prove the system’s effectiveness in enhancing user comfort.
The universal circulation intertwines green spaces and programs, seamlessly blending the park with the Han River and forming a dynamic plaza. The continuous plane creates infinite exploration routes, with varied programmatic conditions generating intriguing interfaces. Spaces between the landscape serve as “gathering bowls” for public events, evolving with the seasons and time.

The park includes ramps, stairs, and elevators linking the river to the elevated park, with emergency vehicle access via the slope. Nodes connect the park to surrounding apartments, providing buffer zones from public routes. Each landing point is near the bridge connecting Seorae Island to the riverside trail.

The park’s façade, slanted towards the river, functions as a canopy for walkers, bikers, and runners. It offers dynamic and inclusive environments for relaxation, gathering, and activities, reconnecting visitors with the river and each other.

Inspired by a forest, the façade features trunks forming a unified canopy with arches, and ivy mimics natural growth. Structural devices like arches and ribbed slabs cover wide spans over the freeway with minimal columns, creating a cost-effective, lightweight, and robust system.

The park continuously evolves with changing seasons and activities, offering fresh and engaging experiences for visitors.
