Drilling Hardened Steel with a Masonry Drill Bit. My results.

I needed to Drill Hardened Steel, This video is of my test to find out can I drill hardened steel with a small masonry drill bit. The hole needed to be quite small, and I was hoping this would not be a problem.

My research to do this was, I Googled "How to drill hardened steel" and found that a standard Masonry Drill bit could be used if you did not have the correct Carbide Drill Bit. The drill speed that came up was slow (around 300 rpm). But after looking at the drill press running at 300 rpm I decided it looked too slow and was thinking the carbide tip may "Grab" and damage the drill bit at that speed, so I did my test at 450 rpm, and used a light oil for lubrication.

I have a DIY project to do and wanted to know my options.

Hope this video helps others.

Always use all the correct safety gear, and use your tools safely, I am not a good role model for this.
