GoPro Hero 9 VS Hero 8 Comparison - Which One Is Best For Vlogging? Edited & Uploaded in 5K

In this video I'm comparing the GoPro Hero 9 Black and the GoPro Hero 8 Black and very specifically for vlogging.

This comparison is done as a blind A/B test. Through the testing and comparing of the Hero9 and the Hero8, I simply show an A or a B in the top right of the screen as I cut between them. At the end of the testing I mention which camera is which as soon as I get to the end summary.

For this video I didn't use any external microphone for the GoPro Hero 9 Black or the Hero 8. That's because I didn't want to skew or confuse the test as I will be doing a number of videos anyway trying to find the best vlogging mic for the GoPro Hero 9.

I also only used one mic from one of the GoPros as I didn't want to give any hints as to which was camera was which in case anyone could have guessed by the internal mic sound of each GoPro as they were alternating. I do mention what GoPro was being used for its internal mic at the end during the summary when I reveal which camera was which.

All the settings for both cameras were set to what the standard 'out of the box' settings that the Hero9 comes with, basically automatic. I just replicated those settings on the Hero8. Here's the shared settings.

Shutter speed auto
EV comp 0
White balance auto
ISO minimum 100
ISO maximum 1600
Sharpness high
Color set to GoPro Color

Resolution was set to 5K for the GoPro Hero9 Black and the GoPro Hero8 Black was set to 4K and they were both set to 25FPS.

The Hero9 was set to Hypersmooth 3 normal and the Hero8 was set to Hypersmooth high. These were the fairest settings as they both represent the highest standard stabilization for both before they both go into their boosted modes. I didn't want to go to boosted as I wanted to widest FOV in linear as this was a test for vlogging.

So what we are looking and comparing for here between the Hero 9 and the Hero 8 are. Their stabilisation, their exposure, their color, their sharpness and their close focus for vlogging.

Remember, this was a test specifically for vlogging.
