Episode 126: Hiking Texas: Big Bend Ranch State Park

In this episode we meet up with Bubba's sister and her family for some hiking at Big Bend Ranch State Park. We chose the state park rather than the national park because it's more dog friendly, and we had a total of six pups along for our hikes!!

We started with the Closed Canyon hike. This slot canyon extends .7 miles into a bluff, making it roughly 1.5 miles out and back. It's an impressive and beautiful hike, the canyon carved by wind and water over the years. The trail dead ends where water begins to block the trail and fill the canyon.

Next, we headed to the Big Bend Hoodoos trail, also known as the Hoodoos and Balanced Rocks trail. Other than fighting some very gusty winds, this easy trail descends to the banks of the Rio Grande River, which also serves as the international border between the United States and Mexico in this area.

Following our hikes we headed to the tiny Texas town of Terlingua, where we enjoyed some Mexican style appetizers and cold beer. It was a great way to finish off an already wonderful day.
