Engaging with Parents about School Discipline and Online Learning 5-11-2023
On May 11, 2023 CASCW and Channel Lowery (in partnership with Dr. Ceema Samini) hosted a one hour virtual training called: Engaging with Parents about School Discipline and Online Learning.
*Many families, as well as school and human service professionals, continue to reflect on the impact of the pandemic. This webinar will present an overview of a research study examining parental perspectives on school discipline and online learning during the COVID-19 pandemic. For example, what has it been like for parents balancing working and assisting their children with being in an online school environment? What has been the experience for parents in accessing and navigating online school resources and applications? The background of the study, implications, and additional considerations will be discussed as they relate to child welfare workers interacting with parents.
*About the Presenter
Channel Lowery, MSW, LGSW, is a doctoral student in the school of social work at the University of Minnesota and a graduate research assistant of Dr. Ceema Samimi (lead researcher on the project). Originally from Pennsylvania, Channel has been in the field of social work for ten years with experience in community integration, housing, and mental health services.
This training was supported by Federal Title IV-E funds via grant #GK302 from the Minnesota Department of Human Services, Children and Family Services Division.
