Decompression sickness (DCS) is one of the most dangerous risks freedivers face. But what if I told you something as simple as dehydration could play a critical role in triggering it?
In this video, I share a personal story from one of my dives where dehydration nearly cost me everything. After floating in the water for hours under the blazing sun, I thought I was ready for a perfect dive, and the dive felt great—but I couldn’t have been more wrong. Within 15 minutes of surfacing, I started losing the ability to move and speak.
Hydration isn’t just a basic habit; it’s a life-saving necessity. Dehydration slows your body's ability to process nitrogendown nitrogen elimination, increases fatigue, and heightens the risk of decompression sickness after a dive.
In this video, you’ll learn:
• How dehydration impacts your body during freediving.
• Why proper hydration before, during, and after dives is critical.
• The key lessons I’ve learned from my experiences with DCS.
