Hot Flashes| Aromatherapy| Symptoms| Causes| Remedies| Do it at home

Hot flashes are a feeling of warmth that spread over the body. They are mostly experienced by women entering in pre-menopausal stage and diminish over time. They are accompanied by symptoms such as increased heart rate with a thumping sensation in the chest. The face, neck and chest appear red and flushed. One may even experience palpitations with a feeling of nausea and lightheadedness. At times they cause heavy perspiration during nights known as night sweats.

Hot flashes are caused by the decline of estrogen in the body affecting the hypothalamus. The hypothalamus is the part of our brain responsible for regulating body temperature. Thus an interruption in hypothalamic function leads to hot flashes.
We are now going to make an aromatherapy blend with essential oils that will help balance the estrogen levels in the body. They also lift the mood while dealing with the emotional swings that come along with the menopause.
You will need a one ounce or about 30 ml amber, blue or green glass bottle.
1. Put 15 drops of Clary sage oil in the bottle
2. Add 15 drops of Geranium oil to it
3. Now add 3 drops of Vitex aka Chasteberry
4. Fill the remaining bottle with the Witch hazel. Witch hazel is cooling to the skin making it helpful for hot flashes
5. Close the bottle tightly and shake it well.

Spray it on your neck, chest, abdomen, inner thighs and arms during a hot flash.

You can also spray it on bottoms of your feet at night to help with night sweats and mood swings. The relaxing effects of the clary sage will also help you sleep.

Make sure to shake every time before use to incorporate the oils.
Consult your physician before using this blend if you are pregnant, taking birth control, undergoing hormone replacement therapy or have an estrogen dependent cancer.

Also take note that geranium should not be used if you have hypoglycaemia or diabetes.

 All essential oils used should be 100% essential oils and organic whenever possible.
 Any essential oil whether it be single oil or a blend should be stored in a cool dark place away from extreme heat and sunlight as they will lessen the effects of the oils. Always store oils in dark glass bottles such as amber, cobalt blue or green. It’s best to use the oils within six to eight months of buying or making them.
 Do not apply essential oils to the skin undiluted.
 Always test oils on a small patch of skin.
 Keep out of reach of children and pets.
 Pregnant women should not apply essential oils to the skin unless directed by an Aromatherapist or healthcare practitioner.
 Do not take essential oils internally unless directed by a professional aromatherapist or health practitioner.
 Avoid eye contact
