Summertime Llama

We have a new baby llama born here on the high plains of Southeast Colorado this 23rd day of June, 2023. From from inspection it appears this little one is a female, so suffice to say her name is Summer. A very warm and windy day., but several weeks of cool wet weather are now behind us for the time being. The mom couldn't have picked better weather!

A few llama facts:
Gestation period: 350 days
Lifespan: Llamas can live up to 20 years, with an average life expectancy of 15 years.
Do llamas ever give birth to twins? Llamas usually only have one baby at a time. Llama twins are incredibly rare.
Do llamas make good pets? Llamas are first and foremost pets and companions. They are ideally suited to this task because of their predictable low-key temperament, intelligence, and ease of maintenance. Llamas are becoming increasingly popular pets due to their mild manners, cleanliness, and friendly dispositions.
Do llamas like to be hugged? Most llamas are aloof and don't like to be touched.
Are llamas intelligent? They are extremely intelligent, very beautiful and graceful, and carry themselves with elegance.
Why do farmers raise llamas? The llama has been domesticated in South America for many centuries. There the llama is used as a beast of burden, as a fiber source, and as a meat source. Llamas make great guard animals against dogs, coyotes, fox and other similar predators.
Should I get a llama as a pet? My personal opinion is that before considering a llama as a pet, please read as much information on them as possible BEFORE bringing a llama to your home or farm. There are several outstanding web sites that can provide you with a wealth of information.
