Coe and Clevenger
For continuous thickener design the Coe and Clevenger model can be used. It calculates the plan area of a thickener for various solid concentrations between the thickener feed concentration and the underflow concentration. The greatest value of area is what is then used for the thickener design. The Coe and Clevenger model is derived from a material balance on a continuous thickener, this is covered within the video, together with how to implement the solution. The video describes the process that it used for continuous thickener design at www.particles.org.uk/sedimentation, which uses the Coe and Clevenger technique. It also covers the basic principles behind hindered settling and batch flux, which is an essential component within the Coe and Clevenger model.
