This video is a comparison between the Hoka Arahi 5 and the Hoke Gaviota 3. The Hoka Arahi 5 and the Hoka Gaviota 3 are both lightweight premium stability shoes. They feature an engineered mesh upper that is breathable keeping you cool while running. The Arahi 5 and the Gaviota 3 are very equal in the amount of room in the toe box and lockdown feeling across the mid foot of the shoes. The tongue on the Arahi 5 is semi-gusseted while the Gaviota 3 has a full gusset. The lace enclosure system is different. The Arahi 5 has a more traditional eyelet chain while the Gaviota 3 has a winged band that run down to the midsole, between the tongue and the upper material. This creates a more locked down feeling across your mid foot. There is a ton cushion on the tongue, collar, and tab of both shoes that provides for a plush comfortable run experience. I think they over delivered on the padding in the Gaviota 3. The heel counter in both running shoes, has plenty of structure that provides for stability. Both have a nice heel pocket. I did not have any heel slippage in either the Hoka Arahi 5 or the Gaviota 3. Hoka continues the J-Frame feature in the midsole of the both the Arahi 5 and the Gaviota 3 as they have in previous versions. This reduces over and under pronation allowing for a more efficient gait cycle bringing you into a healthy amount of pronation. The midsole of the Gaviota 3 has more EVA foam than in the Arahi 5 .The Hoka Gaviota 3 has an estimated stack height of 34mm in the heel and a 29mm in the forefoot. While the Hoka Arahi 5 has 29mm in the heel and 24mm in the forefoot. Both version maintain a 5 mm offset from the heel to the toe. The Hoka Gaviota 3 has a late stage meta-rocker that increases stability. While the Arahi 5 has an early stage meta-rocker that provides for a smooth transition from your heel to toe as you slide through your gait cycle. The outsole on both model shoes has plenty of rubber in all of the high abrasion areas where you expect to see signs of wear. This adds to the overall durability and longevity of the shoe. The Hoka One One Gaviota 3, in a men's size 9, weights 11.3oz while the Hoka One One Arahi 5 weights 9.1oz, on my scales. The Hoka Gaviota 3 retails for $160.00 U.S. dollars while the Arahi 5 retails for $130.00 U.S. dollars. Overall the Hoka One One Gaviota 3 performed well to correct over pronation while creating a highly cushioned run experience. If you are in need of, or will benefit from a max stability shoe, I believe that the Hoka Gaviota 3 delivers more corrective action to bring you into a healthy level of pronation. However, if you are looking for a lighter stability shoe that is a little quicker and gives you a smooth ride, than the Hoka Arahi 5 might be the right shoe for you. Thank you for watching! Have a great day.,
