Today’s topic is in answer to a recent subscriber’s question, but it hilites a bigger issue about how Chinese medicine /Acupuncture is based on a more functional and theoretical system rather than directly structural ...at least in how we talk about “organ functions” ...yes this is hugely confusing and sometimes I wonder if it could be simplified by talking more about the 5 elements as functions - lets say the “Yin of Wood” rather than the Liver but anyway, it is the way it is and so lets unpack this idea.

This video is actually perfect for patients or young students of Chinese medicine who are confused about if they had an organ removed - like the Gall Bladder is a common one - does this affect the Gall Bladder in Chinese medicine?
