Cannes 2026 Opens in Style as Hollywood Legends and Global Icons Grace the Red Carpet

The 2026 Cannes Film Festival began with a spectacular opening ceremony at the Palais des Festivals. The evening was a perfect blend of timeless glamour and modern star power, marked by the world premiere of Pierre Salvadori’s La Vénus Électrique (The Electric Kiss).

The red carpet saw a historic gathering of jury members including Demi Moore, who dazzled in a custom Jacquemus gown and 263 carats of Chopard diamonds, alongside Stellan Skarsgård and Jury President Park Chan-wook. Jane Fonda brought classic elegance in a sequinned Gucci ensemble, while Alia Bhatt made a breathtaking return in a peach-toned Tamara Ralph couture gown. A highlight of the night was the presentation of the honorary Palme d'Or to legendary director Peter Jackson, who was joined on stage by The Lord of the Rings star Elijah Wood. With 22 films competing for the top prize, the stage is now set for twelve days of cinematic excellence.
