4 steps to memorize vocabulary in a foreign language

This is my process for learning vocab. If you have another method that I didn't mention, let me know in the comments!

The problem with learning language through a prefabricated course is that they are going to teach you so many vocabulary words that you just won't need at first. With my method, you will start your language learning by learning only the words that are directly relevant to you. Then, as you progress, you will gradually learn more and more complicated words when it becomes necessary in conversation.
I recommend creating your own personal phrasebook, that includes vocabulary that you are going to use to describe yourself, and vocabulary from the songs that you listen to in your target language. Then, input these vocabulary words into a digital flashcard app or website, and study them every day. Once you have a (very) basic grasp on these words and phrases, it's time to start using that vocabulary in conversations with actual native speakers. I want to stress the importance of moving to this step as quickly as possible, even though you might not be comfortable. You will never be comfortable with your current level in the language you are learning, and the only way to advance to the next level is by practice. It's never too early to start practicing with native speakers.
