Milwaukee 2012R, 450 Lumens Internal Rechargeable Magnetic Headlamp and Task Light, Red

SUMMARY: The nicest headband light I’ve owned to date.
BACKGROUND: I have several headband lights, some cheap, some from big-name companies; but the Milwaukee 2012R is the nicest by far.
FIT AND FINISH: The quality of materials is comparable to my other Milwaukee tools and gear and is totally acceptable for a light in this price point. The head is very compact but easy to operate and the quick-detach magnetic mount capability is very handy.
FEATURES: For a small light there is a lot to say.
• 450 Lumens of TRUEVIEW High-Definition Output
o (From an online source) Milwaukee says that their TRUEVIEW LED products have a CRI of 85 (the maximum CIR is 100.) That is not what would be considered a “very high CRI,” but it is in the top 15 percent. Milwaukee’s TRUEVIEW LED lighting products have a color temperature of 4000K, which is not quite what would be considered daylight (~5600K). 4000K is between warm and cool ends of the white light spectrum and is quite pleasing.
• Spot, Flood and Hybrid Beam Options for the Ideal Intensity and Coverage
o Two LED lights with the ability to switch either or both on at the same time.
• 5 Light Output Modes:
o Hybrid Spot/Flood mode: 450-Lumens- 2.5 hours
o Spot High: 250-Lumens- 4 hours
o Spot Low: 50-Lumens- 8 hours
o Flood High mode: 250-Lumens- 4 hours
o Low: 50-Lumens- 14 hours
• Magnetic light head detaches from the strap holster
o Pop the light off for hand-held or magnetic mounting (see photos)
• Can magnetically mount the light head in 3 positions (see photos)
• Rechargeable via supplied 2-foot Micro-USB cable
o I’m converting all my mobile lighting to rechargeable; it beats grabbing a light that has dead (and leaking) batteries.
• Monitor runtime with an on-board battery indicator (Green, Yellow, Red)
• IP54 rated as weather and dust resistant and survives impacts from up to 2 meters

• 5-Position Adjustable Light Head strap holster for Directing Light
o The holster uses a detent type angle adjustment which is handy when you can’t get your head positioned at the right angle.
• Soft, sweat absorbing microfiber padding on the forehead of the adjustable elastic head band is very comfortable.
• Light Holster can be removed from the head strap and attached to the light bracket on Milwaukee BOLT hardhats.
o It’s a bit of a pain to do, but if you were going to use the light almost always on a hardhat this is a handy feature (see photos.) Because the light mounts to the holster magnetically you can still remove it from the hardhat to mount somewhere else.

o If you don’t have a Milwaukee BOLT hardhat with a light bracket on the front you can use the clips to put the head strap on your hardhat. (I have already misplaced the clips.)

OPERATION: Two buttons: on/off, and mode. The mode button cycles through the 5 lighting modes described above. The light does remember the last lighting mode used and will return to that mode when the light is turned on again. The light WILL NOT TURN ON while charging.

SUMMARY: Small, light, with good features. Perfect for my DIY work.
