Norris bruised but 'ready to race' after spectacular Q3 crash
McLaren's Lando Norris looks back over his huge crash at Eau Rouge in wet conditions in the final part of qualifying for the 2021 Formula 1 Belgian Grand Prix at Spa-Francorchamps.
Lando Norris has been cleared to race in Sunday's Belgian Grand Prix after medical checks following his high-speed crash at Raidillon in qualifying, McLaren have confirmed.
The Briton topped Q1 and Q2 on Saturday but crashed out at high speed in wet conditions in Q3. He lost the car at Eau Rouge, hit the barriers at Raidillon and spun several times across the track, as you can see in the video below.
Afterwards, McLaren reported that he was "checked at the trackside medical centre and then sent to a local hospital for a precautionary x-ray of his elbow."
A McLaren spokesperson added later on Saturday evening that Norris had been cleared to race on Sunday.
"Following precautionary checks after an accident during qualifying at the Belgian Grand Prix, Lando Norris has been cleared to compete in the 2021 Belgian Grand Prix by the trackside doctor and FIA medical delegate," a spokesman said.
Norris posted a message on his Instagram on Saturday evening, thanking his fans for the messages of support, and adding: "Big crash and feeling a little bruised but I'm well and recovering ready for the race tomorrow."
The 21-year-old qualified a provisional ninth for the Belgian GP but may start lower down – or from the pit lane – depending on the damage to his MCL35M car, and potential grid penalties he may incur should key parts need to be replaced.
