1959 Velocette Scrambler MkII

Here we have a short video of the starting of my 1959 Velocette Scrambler MkII. The straight through exhaust pipe certainly gives the Velo a distinct sound! I haven't had the bike out or started at all during the winter, so it was time to fire her up. The Scrambler certainly accelerates quickly but as you can see from the 60 tooth sprocket, there is no wonder really! Not much on the top end speed though. This model has the M17/8 profile camshaft, Amal TT carb, manual BTH TT Magneto. The swing arm trunnions and steering column are dowelled to help prevent any movement with the bike being used on rougher ground or even getting airborne! Compression ratio is 8.75 : 1 but as you can see these big single can kick back. The Scrambler is still a heavy bike which is probably why not many were produced. The majority went to the USA like this one which after being made at the Hall Green Factory, Birmingham UK, it was shipped to Lou Branch Motorcycles in Los Angeles, California, USA. It came back to the UK in 2004.
Just a little first video from my new channel while I get used to making and editing Youtube content, so bare with me, I intend on adding more Velocette motorcycle stuff as we go along, giving a bit more of a look at the various models and what goes on here in the workshop of Tanks Classics Ltd. www.velocetteclassics.com for more information and contact details.
