Alvin Lee & Ten Years Later - Ain't Nothin' Shakin'

Alvin Lee- gtr, voc; Tom Compton- drums; Mick Hawksworth- bass
from the album Rocket Fuel (1977)

Alvin says… there was somethin’ shakin’ on that day! It’s very fast and energetic and it was a great live number. We used to take it to the limit. That’s Tom Compton on drums and he had this huge kit with 24 drums and 24 cymbals and a big gong at the back. I remember Ringo Starr came down to the studio at Hook End one day with George Harrison. When he saw this drum kit he said ‘Bloody hell, what time does it take off?’
Ringo sat down and started to bash every drum in sight. ‘Well you can’t help it can you? I want to hit them!’ There’s a bit here where I play guitar just backed by the drums. The tune changes key as well in places from A to D that is quite unusual in rock’n’roll. It was a showpiece number. I can’t remember where it was recorded and that will have to remain a mystery. It speeds up at the end and it was a ‘last one to finish gets a bag of nuts.’
