An Introduction to Andrea Verrocchio: Artist of Renaissance Florence

Eric Denker, senior lecturer and manager of gallery talks and lectures for adults, education division, National Gallery of Art

Uniquely gifted at sculpture, painting, and drawing, distinguished also as a teacher, Andrea del Verrocchio (c. 1435–1488) was perhaps the most influential artist of the second half of the 15th century in Florence. This slide lecture provides an introduction to the work of Verrocchio and his closest collaborators, encompassing sculpture in clay, plaster, stone, and bronze, as well as panel paintings and drawings.
