How I prevent cracks on my '85 Toyota's Dashboard

These 80's Toyota Trucks are notorious for having a cracked dash pad. My 1985 Toyota 4x4 has almost 200k miles and no cracks in the original dash. All I do to maintain the dash is apply Baby Oil about once every year to prevent the vinyl from becoming too dry and splitting.
