The world’s first nuclear explosion happened on July 16 in 1945. It was a plutonium implosion device tested in New Mexico under the code name Trinity. When detonated at 5:30 AM over the New Mexico desert, it immediately vaporized the 100-foot tower that it was dropped on top of.
