Elton John - Georgia (1978) With Lyrics!

From Elton John's 1978 album "A Single Man." On this album he did not work with his longtime songwriting partner Bernie Taupin. Instead he wrote with lyricist Gary Osborne. The method here was very different than it was with Taupin, which was lyrics first then Elton adding music. On this album Elton began the songs, usually writing a fair amount of lyrics himself, and then Osborne would finish off the song with complete lyrics.

This song about Georgia was written over ten years before Elton bought a home in Atlanta, Georgia. The song was also used in TV advertisements for the state of Georgia at the time of the 1995 Olympics. Backing vocals by the Watford Football Club, which Elton owned, and the South Adley Street Girls Choir, which was actually the female staff of Rocket Records.
