Bihari Style Chana Dal Kachri Sabzi 😋✨
A comforting, flavorful dish straight from Bihar -crispy kachri soaked in spicy gravy… pure homemade bliss! 💛
Ingredients:
• 75 g chana dal (soaked overnight or 5–6 hours)
For masala paste:
• 1 whole garlic
• 1 inch ginger
• 1 tsp cumin seeds
• 2–3 cardamom
• 1 small piece cinnamon, javitri ,star anise
• 2–3 cloves, 2-3 red chilly
• 10–12 black pepper
For kachri:
• 1 small onion (finely chopped)
• 2–3 green chilies
• Fresh coriander leaves
• 1/4 tsp ajwain
• 1/4 tsp nigella seeds (mangraila)
• Salt to taste
• Mustard oil (for frying)
For gravy:
• 1 tbsp mustard oil
• 1 tsp cumin seeds
• 1–2 dry red chilies
• 2 big onions (paste or very finely chopped)
• 1 tsp turmeric
• 2 tsp Kashmiri red chili powder
• 1 tsp meat masala or kitchen king masala
• Water as needed
Recipe:
First, grind all the masala paste ingredients (garlic, ginger, cumin, cardamom, cinnamon, cloves, and black pepper) into a smooth paste.
Grind soaked chana dal coarsely without water. Mix 1 spoon of this prepared masala paste, chopped onion, green chilies, coriander, ajwain, nigella seeds, and salt. Shape into small kachris and fry in mustard oil until crispy.
Heat mustard oil, add cumin seeds and red chilies. Add onion and cook until golden brown. Add remaining masala paste, turmeric, and chili powder. Cook until oil separates, then add meat masala powder. Add water (keep it slightly thin as kachri absorbs it). Once it boils, add fried kachris and cook for 5 minutes. Switch off and serve hot!
