The 1951 Atlantic C-124 Disappearance

A C-124 Globamaster II enroute to RAF Mildenhall is forced to ditch in the Atlantic Ocean hundreds of miles from land. Although at least some of the crew and passengers apparently evacuate after the ditching, and rescue ships arrive within less than a day, none of the personnel will ever be found, leaving a legacy of mystery and, for the relatives of the survivors, uncertainty.

This is an interesting mishap, in part because there’s ambiguity and disagreement about some of the actual facts of the case. Much of the online literature oversimplifies and, it seems, over-dramatizes the case.

What do you think is the best explanation of events, did the entire crew successfully ditch and survive?
