Ford Bronco Raptor Offroad - The Natural Habitat

This is the Ford Bronco Raptor, but since I refuse to call it the Bronco Raptor for the whole video it will hence forth be known as the Braptor…and any references to the F150 Raptor will be called the Raptor

Today we’re testing the baddest Bronco even in the environment it was built for

We will also have a on-road focused review, but this is all you need to know about the Braptor and its offroad prowess

And what we’re going to do is put it through the 3 phases of Road America’s offroad course to see how it handles each obstacle…so first, into the forest…

First of all, let me preface by saying a tight-knit Wisconsin forest is NOT where this Braptor was designed for. This Braptor is 9.8 inches WIDER than a normal Bronco AND that makes it wider than the F150 Raptor. And length and width is the enemy of getting through a forest.

A few things that DO help are the massive standard 37 inch BFG KO2 tires that give the SUV 13.1 inches of clearance. There’s also a front AND rear locker with front disconnecting sway bars AND 13 inches of travel in the front and 14 in the back to allow you to keep traction and articulate over any fallen tree or boulder.

You can of course engage all of these features independently OR you can select the most appropriate of the 7 GOAT modes and let the big brains at Ford Performance take care of you becasue let’s face it…most of us aren’t smarter than engineers

But there’s one feature that stands out as one of the most helpful here in the forest..and that’s trail turn assist…like i said this thing is wide and it’s turning circle isn’t ideal for forests so trail turn assist will brake the inside rear wheel to SIGNIFICANTLY reduce your turning circle

Ok so we kinda knew this might happen at this specific point, but no matter how many features Ford throws at this thing, they can’t make it skinny enough to get through here…so we’re going to have to go back and head over to the hills

This is more where the Bronco will shine…the hills are designed to test traction and clearance so it’s a good thing we’ve got a lot of both in this thing

There are three hills with increasing difficulty. With 4 high and the rear diff locked traction shouldnt be an issue. And we’ve got over 13 inches of clearance, 47.2 degrees of approach angle, 30.8 degrees of breakover, and 40.5 degrees of departure..and in the unlikely event we do bottom out we have rock rails and skids underneath to protect

And since this thing is so wide and the hills aren’t it’s nice to be able to leave trail control on and have the front camera engaged so we can pick the best line and stick to it

At the end of the day these hills were never going to pose much of a problem to this thing, but the Raptor did bottom out on hills 2 and 3 so the shorter wheelbase and greater clearance helped keep the undercarriage clean here..on to the moguls

The MOguls are probably the thing I’m most excited about because we get to really get this thing corked out and see the HOSS 4.0 suspension and Fox Shocks at work..let’s see how it does

Here we’re testing articulation limits and Braptor’s ability to send traction to the proper wheel. So with 13 inches of travel up front, disconnecting sway bar, and 14 inches of travel in the rear and both diffs locked up this should be a cake walk

And just as we suspected, got through no problem so now I think we do the course again…but fast
