Louise Johns traces her journey as a documentary photographer and how it has shaped her relationships with people and the natural world. She has found that being present and listening inspires images that can open hearts and transcend boundaries. In her attempt to bridge understanding, she has also learned something about herself.
Louise Johns is a documentary photographer and National Geographic Explorer based in Montana whose work examines relationships between people and place. She has a master’s degree in Environmental Science Journalism from the University of Montana, where she also studied photojournalism. She works with a variety of outlets including the New York Times, Washington Post, National Geographic, The Nature Conservancy, and Patagonia, and she also teaches photojournalism.
