Focus to Infinity without Indicator (i.e. Nikon 18-55 kit lens)

Many people have asked how to focus to infinity on lenses without infinity indicators like the Nikon 18-55 kit lens. Finding infinity focus is important for various landscape shots (i.e. mountains, moon, stars, etc.).
