Gran Teatre del Liceu’s 2022-23 Season (Barcelona)

The Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona has announced its 2022-23 season featuring classic works with international stars.

Here is a look at the new season.

Donizetti’s “Don Pasquale” will star Carlos Chausson, Alessandro Corbelli, Andrzej Filonczyk, Carles Pachón, Xabier Anduaga, Iván Ayón-Rivas, Sara Blanch, and Serena Sáenz. Josep Pons conducts.

Performance Dates: Sept. 21-Oct. 9, 2022

“La gata perduda“will have its world premiere with Pau Armengol, Rocío Martínez, Marta Infante, Albert Casals, and Dianne Ico. Alfons Reverté conducts. Unfortunately I was not able to fit this in the video.

Performance Dates: Oct. 5 & 7, 2022

Vittorio Grigolo and Yonghoon Lee star in Verdi’s “Il Trovatore” with Saioa Hernández, Hibla Gerzmava, Gianluca Buratto, Krzysztof Baczyk, Ksenia Dudnikova, Judit Kutasi, Juan Jesús Rodríguez, and Àngel Òdena. Riccardo Frizza conducts.

Performance Dates: Oct. 27-Nov. 8, 2022

Puccini’s “Il Trittico” will star Ambrogio Maestri, Brandon Jovanovich, Lise Davidsen, Mireia Pintó, Ermonela Jaho, Daniela Barcellona, Ruth Iniesta, and Iván Ayón-Rivas. Susanna Mälkki conducts Lotte de Beer’s new production.

Performance Dates: Nov. 27-Dec. 15, 2022

Aleksandra Kurzak (not anymore), Maria Agresta, Monica Zanettin, and Sondra Radvanovsky star in Puccini’s “Tosca” with Roberto Alagna (not anymore, replaced by Fabiano), Joseph Calleja, Antonio Corianò, Evgeny Nikitin, George Gagnidze, and Luca Salsi.

Performance Dates: Jan. 4-21, 2023

Luca Salsi and Carlos Álvarez star in Verdi’s “Macbeth” alongside Erwin Schrott, Simón Orfila, Sondra Radvanovsky, Anna Pirozzi, Francesco Pio Galasso, and Celso Albelo. Jaume Plensa directs the new production with Josep Pons conducting.

Performance Dates: Feb. 16-March 3, 2023

Magdalena Kožená, Erin Morley, Elizabeth DeShong, Anna Bonitatibus, Valerio Contaldo, and Alex Rosen star in Handel’s “Alcina.” Marc Minkowski conducts.

Performance Date: Feb. 17, 2023

Gilda Fiume, Vanessa Goikoetxea, Benedetta Torre, Antonia Ahyoung Kim, Rinat Shaham, Leonor Bonilla, and Marta Mathéu star in “7 Deaths of Maria Callas” by Marina Abramović. Josep Pons conducts.

Performance Dates: March 9-11, 2023

Josep Pons conducts the world premiere of “Alexina B.” Marta Pazos directs the production which stars Lídia Vinyes-Curtis, Alicia Amo, Elena Copons, Xavier Sabata, Mar Esteve, and Fabian Lara. Unfortunately, I was not able to fit this in the video, as no audio is available, as it´s a world premiere.

Performance Dates: March 18-22, 2023

Nadine Sierra, Amina Edris, Javier Camarena, and Pene Pati star in Massenet’s “Manon” with Alexandre Duhamel, Jarrett Ott, Laurent Naouri, and Jean-Vincent Blot. Marc Minkowski conducts the production by Olivier Py.

Performance Dates: April 20-May 3, 2023

Nikolai Schukoff, Elena Pankratova, René Pape, Matthias Goerne, and Evgeny Nikitin star in Wagner’s “Parsifal” with Josep Pons conducting the production by Claus Guth. Probably my personal highlight of the new season.

Performance Dates: May 25-June 7, 2023

Gluck’s “Orfeo ed Euridice” will be performed in a concert performance.

Performance Dates: June 8 & 9 2023

David Hansen, Xavier Sabata, Nahuel di Pierro, Josep Ramon Olivé, Thobela Ntshanyana, Natalia Labourdette, Milan Perišic, Magdalena Kožená, Julie Fuchs, and Deanna Breiwick star in Monteverdi’s “L’Incoronazione di Poppea” with Jordi Savall and Luca Guglielmi conducting. Calixto Bieito directs.

Performance Dates: July 10-21, 2023
