Crazy Amazon FBA Theory - TURN OFF YOUR PPC - How to Improve Your Ranks!
My crazy theory on how turning off your Amazon PPC Ads has the potential to improve your organic ranks!
This theory is purely anecdotal as it is based on my experience of selling 3 private label products on Amazon UK.
I first noticed this at Christmas 2018, my first product was selling too well so I turned off PPC to try and prevent it from going out of stock before the next batch arrived.
Instead of slowing down, the sales stayed the same and then improved slightly - I checked the organic ranks and within 1 to 2 weeks of the PPC campaign being paused they had improved for all of my keywords.
I have seen similar results from my other two products which is why I wanted to share this theory with you guys.
I believe the two metrics that explain why turning off Pay Per Click can potentially help your organic ranks:
1) Click Through Rate (CTR) - If your PPC campaign has a low CTR, this will pull down your overall CTR.
2) Conversion Rate - The same theory applies to conversion rates, if your PPC conversion rate is low it will drag down your overall conversion rate.
Even with an optimised PPC campaign it is likely that your PPC CTR and conversion rate is lower than your organic ranks, by pausing the campaigns your organic sales are given the opportunity to increase your metrics.
Try it for yourself, turn PPC off for a week or two and see if your organic ranks improve - your sales are likely to be lower initially but if the ranks stay the same and then improve it is worth it in the long run.
