Women, girls, and other marginalized groups have different mobility patterns, and face different safety concerns, and accessibility barriers than men, but this is not always reflected in the data used to inform transportation policy and decision-making. As a result, transportation systems may not fully address the needs and experiences of a large parts of its users, perpetuating gender and social inequalities. By drawing upon the expertise of the Iman A. Abubaker, Angie Palacios, Bronwen Thornton and Dr. Kalpana Viswanath and the discussions with the audience, this breakout session at the TUMI2023 Conference aims to generate insights for advancing gender equality in the transport sector through the use of data.
